Dmasyq Berhari Raya 2

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

This year, Syeikh Ratib Nabulsi was kind enough to let Dmasyq use his wonderful villa as the venue for our Lebaran Perantau (LP) II, an annual ‘eid celebration among us Singaporean students in Syria. Baarakallhu feehim.

I’m sure everyone agrees with me if I say that the highlight for this year’s LP was the skit performed by our 5 talented syabab: akh Zahid, akh Jalaludin, akh Fadhli, akh Taufiq and akh Hafidz. Entitled: awwaluhu rahmah, awsatuhu maghfirah, wa aakhiruhu ‘itq minan nar, the skit addressed issues like parents, responsibilities and priorities. Issues close to our hearts, and the sound of noses being blown and tissues being passed around confirmed that the audiences were touched by their performance. The skit was further spiced up by our exclusive acapella team that deliver choruses of Hari Raya songs at the precise intervals in accordance to the scences of the skit. Kudos to both teams.

Besides that, we also had our own version of Project Runway. Using only newspapers, "safra" (the plastic sheets we normally use to place on the mat before a meal) and scothtapes, each team was given 15 minutes to come up with the most creative Hari Raya dress/suit, along with a set of pantun. The results were Hari Raya clothes of various designs, inclusive of keris, sword, tanjak, pointed shoes, ribbons, fans, tiara, and more undescribable and unable-to-be-named “accessories”. Ahem. Dmasyq-ians - as the competition proved – are very creative people indeed! :D

LP II finally came to an end with a mass apology-seeking session (akhawat-akhawat, syabab-syabab. No ikhtilat right? =)). More noses being blown….

The Programmers hope that the audiences had a good time at Bait Sawa. Our deepest apologies for any shortcomings on our part. Together, we learn from each other, and carve better and more fruitful events in the future, biidznillah.
